ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — In a major development for Pakistan’s growing digital economy and technology sector, Google’s office in the country was formally inaugurated by Honourable Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, at the ceremony hosted at the Prime Minister’s House. The high-level event brought together key public and private stakeholders driving the nation’s digital transition, including Google Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy Wilson White, Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and Tech Valley CEO Umar Farooq.
While Google’s primary operational office base in Pakistan is situated in Karachi, the ceremonial launch in the federal capital underlines a broad, multi-institutional effort to modernize classrooms, advance youth upskilling, and build local tech capacity across the country.
Tech Valley Pakistan, Google’s key in-country partner, played a pivotal role in facilitating this achievement. Over years of close collaboration, Tech Valley has helped drive Google and Google for Education initiatives across the country. To date, these joint efforts have successfully upskilled over 1 million students, educators, developers, professionals, and businesses in Pakistan. Crucially, more than 500,000 of these individuals were reached specifically through Google for Education deployments, Chromebooks, and targeted market development initiatives supported by global teams.
The formal inauguration reinforces growing global confidence in Pakistan’s digital potential and opens the door for expanded federal and provincial technology initiatives.
