Google Cloud Ignites Pakistan’s Startup Ecosystem at Grand Finale of its Startup Competition 2024 27th July 2024, Karachi, Pakistan: Google Cloud, in collaboration with Tech Valley, successfully concluded its inaugural Startup Competition Pakistan 2024 that saw 700 submissions from over 70 cities, at a Grand Finale that was held in conjunction with I/O Extended Karachi at IBA Karachi with over 1,300 startups and developers.  “As incubators of innovation, startups possess immense potential to reshape traditional industries for a digital-first future, creating new economic opportunities for Pakistan. Supporting the growth of startups has long been a strategic imperative for Google Cloud. By equipping promising startups with the tools needed to grow and scale, we are making a valuable investment in Pakistan’s long term prosperity, empowering the country for success in the digital economy”, said Farhan Qureshi, Regional Director, Google. The Competition served as a launchpad for innovation, attracting a surge of creative solutions across five key tracks: AI and Generative AI, Fintech, Sustainability and Environment, E-commerce and Connectivity, and Frontier Digital Technologies. Startups refined their pitches and identified areas of improvements through mentoring sessions in major cities of Pakistan.  “This competition has been a testament to the immense potential within Pakistan’s startup ecosystem. We are thrilled to have partnered with Google Cloud and Bank of Punjab to provide this platform for our nation’s brightest minds.” said Umar Farooq, CEO of Tech Valley.  The judging panel consisted of leading local and regional VCs including Indus Valley Capital, i2i Ventures, Sarmayacar, nVentures, Lakson Investments and SEED Ventures. Each winner from the five competition tracks received a cash prize of 1 million PKR and will be offered mentorship from senior Google experts to further refine their ideas. The competition also facilitated connections with leading VCs, opening doors to potential funding. National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation, Allied, and Tech Valley Announce Intent to Form Joint Venture for Made in Pakistan Chromebook Assembly Line Islamabad, Pakistan – June 25, 2024 – National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC), Allied, an Australian-based manufacturer of Chromebooks and Gaming PCs, and Tech Valley have announced their intent to form a joint venture to establish a Google Chromebook assembly line in Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Google partners with the Ministry of Federal Education to bring education access and digital transformation to millions of students Islamabad, Pakistan – June 20th, 2024:  – Google for Education and Pakistan’s Ministry of Federal Education today announced a strategic collaboration to bring digital transformation to millions of students in the country. The partnership will improve access to education and support the development of a digital ecosystem for learning – for Pakistan’s tens of millions of students. Google, through its Google for Education’s country partner, Tech Valley, will work with the Pakistani government to: Establish a local assembly of over 500,000 Chromebooks by 2026 Provide access to digital tools and resources for students and teachers Train teachers on how to use technology effectively in the classroom Develop and implement innovative learning programs that leverage technology The collaboration will focus on helping out-of-school children in Pakistan. Last month, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, declared an “education emergency” to address the issue of over 26 million children being out of school. He pledged to oversee a national program to enroll these children back into educational institutions and expressed his hope for the provincial governments’ support in achieving this goal. As part of the collaboration, Allied, an Australian manufacturer of Google Chromebooks, will establish an assembly line in Pakistan to locally assemble Google Chromebooks, making them more affordable for educational purposes. The goal is to ensure that every student in the country has access to cutting-edge classroom technology, which will enhance their learning experience. School Education Department Launches Google & Tech Valley’s Digital Safar initiative in Punjab [Lahore, Punjab – 12 June 2024] – The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), the Punjab School Education Department (PSED), and Tech Valley have joined hands to launch the Digital Safar program in Lahore, Punjab. Data and Information Security Confidentiality Internal/external stakeholder must sign confidentiality agreements and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines. Sensitive information should only be shared with authorized individuals and within the scope of their responsibilities. Data Encryption All sensitive data, both in transit and at rest, must be encrypted to prevent unauthorized access. Cybersecurity Regular cybersecurity training sessions will be conducted to educate employees about potential threats and best practices for online security. Firewalls, antivirus software, and other security measures will be implemented to protect against cyber threats. Compliance and Review Policy Compliance Regular audits will be conducted to ensure compliance with this safeguarding policy. Non-compliance may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination. Terms & Conditions Google Cloud Startup Competition Pakistan 2024 Valid as of 1st April 2024 Google Cloud Startup Competition Pakistan 2024 Official Rules NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. CONTEST IS OPEN TO RESIDENTS OF PAKISTAN OR INDIVIDUALS BELONGING TO STARTUPS WITH A BUSINESS ENTITY IN PAKISTAN. ENTRY IN THIS CONTEST CONSTITUTES YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THESE OFFICIAL RULES. DEFINITIONS “Award”: refers to the prizes awarded to the Winners at the end of the Challenge.“Brief”: refers to the specifications determined by the Partner Company, which may include the deadlines, the awards, the guidelines and themes to be complied with by all Participants contributions. “Contest”: refers to the Google Cloud Startup Competition Pakistan 2024 that is the subject of the Official Rules, as organized by the Tech Valley. “Finalist”: refers to Participant who reaches the final stage of the Contest. “Grand Finals Jury”: refers to the judges responsible for selecting the winner of each Track. “Official Rules”: refers to these rules, which apply to the Contest. “Participant”: refers to any person registered in accordance with the Rules who takes part in the Challenge. “Track”: refers to any of the following five industry themes that Participants can submit an Entry to: AI & Generative AI Fintech E-commerce & Connectivity Sustainability & Environment Frontier Digital Technology  “Entry”: refers to the Participant’s submission on the Organiser’s website. “Registration”: refers to the registration of a Contest Participant in accordance with the Rules. “Evaluation Jury”: refers to the judges responsible for selecting the Finalists. “Winner” or “Winners”: refers to Participants that reach the Grand Finals of the Contest, and are ranked by the Grand Finals Jury as winning teams. BINDING AGREEMENT In order to enter the Contest, you must agree to these Official Rules (“Rules”). Therefore, please read these Rules prior to entry to ensure you understand and agree. You agree that submission of an entry in the Contest constitutes agreement to these Rules. You may not submit an entry to the Contest, and you are not eligible to receive the prizes described in these Rules unless you agree to these Rules. These Rules form a binding legal agreement between you and Tech Valley with respect to the Contest. ELIGIBILITY To be eligible to enter the Contest, you must:  (1) Be a resident of Pakistan,  (2) Above the age of 18 at the time of entry, (3) Have a registered domain or live website of startup (4) Be a technology startup and not a consultancy (5) Not be more than 10 years old  Employees, interns, contractors, and official office-holders of the Organizer and its parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, and their respective directors, officers, employees, advertising and promotion agencies, representatives, and agents (“Contest Entities”), and members of the Contest Entities and their immediate families (parents, siblings, children, spouses, and life partners of each, regardless of where they live) and members of the households (whether related or not) of such employees, officers and directors are ineligible to participate in this Contest. The Organizer reserves the right to verify eligibility and to adjudicate any dispute at any time. If you are entering as part of a company or on behalf of your employer, these rules are binding on you, individually, and/or your employer. If you are acting within the scope of your employment, as an employee, contractor, or agent of another party, you warrant that such party has full knowledge of your actions and has consented thereto, including your potential receipt of a prize. You further warrant that your actions do not violate your employer’s or company’s policies and procedures. ORGANIZER The Contest is organized by Tech Valley Pvt. Ltd. (“Organizer”), a Pakistan corporation with principal place of business at 17, Main Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Road, I-8/3, Islamabad, Pakistan. CONTEST PERIOD The Contest begins at 12:00:00 P.M. Pakistan Standard Time (PST) in Pakistan on 4 April, 2024 and ends at 11:59:59 (PST) on June 14, 2024 (“Contest Period”).  ENTRANTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DETERMINING THE CORRESPONDING TIME ZONE IN THEIR RESPECTIVE JURISDICTIONS. The Contest period may be extended without express notice at the Organizer’s discretion. HOW TO ENTER NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. To enter the Contest, visit the Contest website located at techvalley.pk/startupcompetition (“Contest Site”) on or prior to June 14, 2024 11:59 p.m. (PT) and follow the instructions for submitting the “Entry.” A confirmation email will be sent to the Participant’s listed email address. Please find the Entry Requirements outlined below (hereinafter, “Requirements”).  Written parts of entries must be in English to be eligible. The Entry must, at a minimum, support English language use. Pitch deck of maximum 10 slides. LIMIT ONE (1) ENTRY PER APPLICANT, defined by the website domain submitted in the Entry. Subsequent entries will be disqualified. All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. (PT) on June  14, 2024. Entries are void if they are in whole or part illegible, incomplete, damaged, altered, counterfeit, obtained through fraud, or late. All entries will be deemed made by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at the time of entry, and the potential winner may be required to show proof of being the authorized account holder for that email address. The “authorized account holder” is the natural person assigned to an email address by an Internet service provider, online service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning the email address for the domain. SELECTION PROCESS The Contest is divided in two selection processes: Evaluation: this stage ends with the selection of five Finalists for each Track; Grand Finals: this stage ends with the selection of a single Winner of each Track; The prize(s) will be awarded to the participant(s) with the highest score for the judging criteria for each Track, as assessed by the Grand Finals Jury.
